Requirements for this Issue

The source code in this issue is designed for all versions of Visual Basic.

In this Issue

In this issue we are going to introduce a function to replace characters in a string. You can use this code to provide a simple search/replace feature in your applications.

ReplaceChars function

To use this function, just add it to any project or module you are working on and call ReplaceChars as described in the Sample Usage section.

Parameters

Return Value

The new string will be returned. The new string will have replaced all occurences of sSrc with sDest.

Sample Usage

sNewString = ReplaceChars("C:/APPS/DATA/NEW", "/", "\")

This call will replace all the / characters with the \ character and return the new string in sNewString. The new string will be "C:\APPS\DATA\NEW"

sNewString = ReplaceChars("C:/APPS/DATA/NEW", "/", "\\")

This call will replace all the / characters with the \\ string and return the new string in sNewString. The new string will be "C:\\APPS\\DATA\\NEW"

sNewString = ReplaceChars("This is a test", "test", "Test")

This call will replace all occurences of the word "test" with the word "Test" and return the new string in sNewString. The new string will be "This is a Test"
